What precautions should be taken when using aluminum hypophosphite?

Aluminum hypophosphite flame retardant is halogen-free, making it more environmentally friendly than brominated flame retardants. It features a high decomposition temperature, no precipitation, and no white spots. However, what precautions should be taken during its use?

1. Try to use it in combination with other materials. It can generally be combined with MCA, toughening agents, lubricants, and charring agents. The formulation and dosage of the combination need to be customized according to the plastic material. If you need a pre-formulated flame retardant, please contact us; our engineers will customize it according to your product requirements to achieve the best results at the lowest cost.

2. During twin-screw extrusion, the temperatures of the front, middle, and rear sections should be set slightly lower, and the extrusion speed should be set to medium to weak shear. Otherwise, if the temperature exceeds 280℃, it may cause the aluminum hypophosphite to decompose.

3. Although it has a high phosphorus content, its flame retardant effect is not good on materials such as ABS, PS, PC, and PA6/PA66.

4. If the product has been stored for a long time, please dry it before use. Why? Because it is slightly soluble in water, it may absorb a small amount of moisture if it is not used for a long time or if the packaging is not airtight, which may lead to decomposition during twin-screw machining.
